Michigan Golf Hall of Fame Inductees
Elaine Crosby
Elaine Crosby had, what
would be considered by most, a late start at golf, not picking up the game
until she was 20. After playing on the
University
of
Michigan
’s varsity team, she won the Bowling Green Invitational in 1980, just
two years after picking up a club. She went on to play in numerous
national amateur events, winning the Michigan Women’s Amateur in ’81,
then a Futures Tour Event before joining the LPGA Tour in 1985. Her years
on tour showed a progression of improvement. In her first five years on
tour, from 1985 – 1989, she worked her way up in the standings. She
recorded a sixth place in the LPGA National Pro-AM and won the Mazda Japan
Classic in1989, while recording a career low 64 in the second round. Her
next five years, 1990 – 94,saw her achieve more than a dozen top 10
finishes and a half a dozen top 3 finishes including three runners-up at
the Lady Keystone Open, prior to winning this tournament in 1994.
Elaine’s last five years on the LPGA Tour saw her tie for second at the
Oldsmobile and the JAL Big Apple Classics in 1995 and reach the top 5 each
subsequent year. The culmination of her play was winning the Michigan
Women’s Open in 2002.
Elaine extended her contribution in golf beyond her playing abilities. She
has been a successful leader as a member of the LPGA Executive Committee
from 1992 – 94, serving as Vice President in 1993 and elected President
of the Tournament Division in 1994. She also sits on the Board of
Directors of the Women’s Senior Tour.
She is founder and CEO of findalesson.com, a website devoted to
professional golf instruction awareness. She is an instructor at the
Crystal
Mountain
Golf
School
and hosts a local golf show in
Jackson
. She co-chairs the Wendy’s Charity Golf Classic in
Jackson
.
Elaine is also in the University of Michigan Hall of Honor and the Jackson
Golf Hall of Fame |
