Michigan Golf Hall of Fame Inductees

Glenn Johnson

Glenn Johnson grew up in Grosse Ile as the son of a Great Lakes Ship Captain. While in High school, Glenn was a three-sport athlete excelling in football and basketball.

He entered Michigan State College, played quarterback on the football team, but gave up other varsity sports.

Like so many athletes after college, he took up golf seriously and his performance earned him "Golfer of the Decade" for the 1950s. During this time and later, he won 5 Michigan Amateur Championships, one GAM Championship, one GAM Senior Championship and appeared on the GAM Honor Roll 21 times.

As a senior, Glenn was GAM Player of the Year. He also qualified for 17 USGA Championships including 5 Amateurs, 4 Opens, and in 1981 was low amateur at the USGA Open held at Oakland Hills.
