Michigan Golf Hall of Fame Inductees

Jerry Matthews  

A past president of the American Society of Golf Course Architects, Jerry Matthews has concentrated his design efforts in Michigan . He has designed or remodeled over 200 courses in Michigan first as a partner with his father Bruce Matthews and then as head of his own company since 1985.

Jerry has designed more that 90 courses in 42 of Michigan ’s 83 counties border to border and coast to coast. A few of his courses are Birchwood Farms in Harbor Springs, Elk Ridge in Atlanta, St. Ives in Stanwood, Timber Ridge in East Lansing, and his newest is Sundance, the second 18 at A-Ga-Ming in Kewadin. He did slip away to Alaska to design a course and do a little fishing.

He has taught golf course design and construction at MSU and mentored two rising architects Bruce Matthews lll and Raymond Hearn. Elected to the Michigan Golf Hall of Fame in 2005.
