Joyce Kazmierski
Joyce Kazmierski established a legacy of success in sports back in high
school where she received letters for golf, field hockey, basketball, and
tennis. She also won the City girls golf title several times. She
continued playing sports in college, and in 1964 earned runner-up in the
Women’s National Collegiate Championship held at Michigan State
University. Two years later, in 1966, Joyce won the Women’s National
Collegiate Championship held that year at Ohio State University. Also in
1966, she won the Michigan Women’s Amateur Championship, a title she
would regain in 1968.
Joyce was further honored by being inducted into the National
Collegiate Golf Hall of Fame in 1986 and the Michigan State University
Athletic Hall of Fame in 1994.
Joyce joined the LPGA in 1986. As a professional, Joyce contributed to
the organization of the sport, not just the competitive play. In 1983, she
was Vice President of the LPGA Player Council and the following year
became President of the LPGA Tour Division.
During her 17 years as a touring pro, Joyce recorded ten 2nd
place finishes. When leaving the Tour in 1986, she was among the top 50
all-time money winners on the LPGA Tour.
Joyce actively promotes golf through education and recreation.
Currently, she is a teaching professional at Eagle Creek Golf Course in
Indianapolis, IN. She provides free golf lessons to six charity groups as
promotional items for raffles. In addition, she conducts free golf clinics
at golf shows and appears on local TV and radio in promotional spots for
golf.
Joyce promotes the recreational aspects of golf as well as the
competitive sport. As co-owner of Sun Spirit Golf Tours, she organizes
golf trips domestically and to Scotland and Ireland. She has also been a
financial contributor to Michigan State University Women’s Golf for 30
years.
She holds memberships in the Golf Collectors Society, Keepers of the
Green Society (based in St. Andrews, Scotland), and is a Class A member of
the LPGA Teaching and Club Professional Division.
