Michigan Golf Hall of Fame Inductees

Mike Souchak

The rugged tight end and place kicker from Duke University wisely chose golf over football after college and it paid off in 16 PGA Tour victories including a scorching 60-68-64-65 – 257 string in the 1955 Texas Open that stood as the tour record until Mark Calcavecchia posted a 256 in the 2001 Phoenix Open. Souchak went to the Tour after apprenticing with Claude Harmon at Winged Foot Golf Club and returned to club golf in 1967 as successor to Al Watrous at Oakland Hills. During his six years in Michigan the long-hitting Souchak won the Open, the PGA, the Pro-Am, the Pro-Assistant twice and the Pro-Pro. He was elected to the Michigan Golf Hall of Fame in 1991.
