Michigan Golf Hall of Fame Inductees
Mary Jane Anderson Hiestand
Mary Jane Anderson Hiestand has held a commanding
presence in amateur golf since the late 80’s. As an individual player,
she has been a winner at every level of women’s amateur golf including
three time GAM Women’s Champion and Mid-Amateur Champion, and three time
Michigan Women’s Amateur Champion, and in 1999, the Michigan Publinx
Champion.
Mary Jane played at
Clarkston
High School
and the team won the Michigan Girl’s High School Championship in 1975
and 1976. She played for the
University
of
Michigan
and has been selected three times to represent
Michigan
on the 3-women team at the U.S. State Team Championship.
Mary Jane dominated the Women’s District Golf
Association for eleven years from 1989 – 2000 winning seven match play
and eight stroke play championships. Nationally, she qualified three times
for the U.S. Women’s Amateur, becoming medallist in 1995 and 13 times
for the U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship making match play each year. She was
voted GAM Player of the Year three times and, in 2000, the Michigan Women
Player of the Decade.
As a role model for young girls, she extended her
skills to coaching
Oakland
University
’s Women’s Golf Team from 1995 – 1998.
